Conestoga HS and the Conestoga Wrestling Booster Club are proud to announce the appointment of Mr. Steve Harner as Head wrestling coach of Conestoga HS, effective immediately. Steve was an exceptional candidate and his wrestling and coaching experience spans thirty plus years.

Since 1978, Steve’s coaching experience includes Clarion Area HS, Bishop Kenrick HS, Norristown HS, Ursinus College, and Williamson Free Trade School. 

From 1985-2004, Steve spent 19 years as Head Coach at his Alma Mater, Norristown HS. During his tenure at Norristown he built a powerhouse program underscored by some of the many highlights below: 

• Suburban 1 Champions – 1996-2004 (nine consecutive)
• PIAA Sectional Champions – 1996, ’97, ’99, 2000, ’01, ’03, ‘04
• PIAA District 1 North Champions – 1996, ’97, 2002
• PIAA Regional Champions – 1996, ’97, 2001
• 41 PIAA State Qualifiers and 16 medalists
• 23 HS All-Americans of which 9 were Academic All-Americans

Moreover, Steve’s high school wrestlers went on to earn success in college, with 10 NCAA qualifiers and 2 NCAA All-Americans. 

In addition, Steve has been selected to be the Head Coach of the PA  A.A.U. Disney National Duals team, the most competitive team duals in the country, His teams have won this event the last four years. 

Steve’s coaching efforts have earned him the following accolades:

• Suburban 1 Coach the Year – 1996-2003
• District 1 Coach of the Year – 1996, ’97, 2001
• Nelson Stratton Award – 1996, ’97, 2003
• AAU National Coach of the Year – 2007
• Inducted into the Montgomery County Coaches Hall of Fame – 2007
• Inducted into the SE Penna. Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame – 2008 

Steve was a member of the United States Marine Corps. from 1981-1985 obtaining the rank of Captain. Steve is a 1973 graduate of Norristown HS, obtained his BA from Clarion State College, where he wrestled from 1973-1978, and obtained his Masters Degree College in Educational Leadership from Gwynedd Mercy. 

Since 1985, Steve has been an Administrator in the Norristown Area School District.
